LEADERSHIP FOR QUALITY CHARTERS: July 14-16, 2009
Leadership for Quality Charters is an intensive 3-day experience for developers and operators of charter schools. This year's institute focuses on Teacher Recruitment and Professional Development . Participants will enhance their ability to recruit high impact teachers and insure their classroom leadership ability through high quality professional development. The program integrates cutting edge concepts from education research and business leadership with field-based experiences of institute faculty and facilitated shared insights of participants.
 
SCHEDULE
Day 1:

Teacher Recruitment and Development for Educational Impact

To deliver on their commitment to be high quality alternatives to the district, charter schools must both recruit high impact teachers and insure their classroom leadership ability through high quality professional development. The session will feature Julie Jackson, UnCommon Schools Charter Network Principal; Dr. John Webb, Director Princeton University Teacher Preparation Program; George Elias, Educational Impact.

Day 2:

Instructional Supervision for Rigor and Relevance

For charter schools to achieve true rigor and relevance in their education program, school leaders must provide the structure, support, and guidance for teachers to deliver challenging instruction which helps students make connections with the world around them. This session will feature Dr. Susan Paynter, Director of Gifted and Talented Programs at Montclair State University



Day 3:

Staff Sustainability for School Success

Working in a charter school is a formidable undertaking for the leaders and faculty who staff them. This session will help charter schools advance ambitious student achievement goals while avoiding potential “invisible overhead cost” to their school and well being cost to the staff. This session will feature Nekia Lewis, Manager of Healthcare Initiatives at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Opportunities in Crisis

This seminar will engage charter school leaders in exploration of risk management cost-saving strategies which may help schools realize their goals of investing greater resources for education program initiatives such as teacher recruitment and development. This session is sponsored by New Jersey School Boards Association Insurance Group which insures charter schools nationally.

 
COST
$550 for institute package. Cost is per person and includes training, materials, breakfast and lunch. Teams of two or more qualify for a $35 per person discount.
